2020 Stakeholders Association Meeting
TB Alliance convened its annual Stakeholders Association (SHA) meeting as a virtual event on Thursday, November 19, 2020.
Nick Herbert (Lord Herbert of South Downs), chair of the Global TB Caucus and chair of the Global Equality Caucus, gave a keynote addresson the impact of COVID-19. This was followed the State of the TB Alliance address from Mel Spigelman, president and CEO. Eugene Sun, senior vice president, Research and Development at TB Alliance, shared more information about TB Alliance's pipeline, and Nader Fotouhi, senior vice president and chief scientific officer, discussed innovative pathways for future TB drug discovery.
A panel discussion moderated by Mitchell Warren, president of the TB Alliance SHA and executive director of AVAC, focused on the impacts of COVID-19 on TB treatment and management, with speakers including Francesca Conradie, MD, primary investigator of the Nix-TB clinical trial, and Nestani Tukvadze, MD, head of the Research Unit at the National Center for Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, Georgia. Bongiswa Mdaka, an XDR-TB survivor in South Africa who participated in Nix-TB, also joined the panel to share her story. More of Bongiswa's story is shared through a video interview, included below.
