Digital Training Platform, Upskill TB, Strengthens Capacity to Deliver New DR-TB Treatments

JAKARTA (October 9, 2025)—TB Alliance, in collaboration with the RPRI Foundation and Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, has officially launched the Universal Platform for Skill Improvement and Learning for New TB Regimens (Upskill TB) to strengthen healthcare capacity and accelerate the fight against drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB). The launch event took place in Jakarta.

The initiative comes at a critical time, as Indonesia, which has the second-highest burden of TB in the world, aims to rapidly diagnose hundreds of thousands of undiagnosed TB cases and treat all the people who develop DR-TB annually with the latest treatments in an effort to improve a treatment success rate from 59% seen with older treatments.

“Our shared hope is that the Upskill TB Platform can be widely utilized so that case detection, enrollment, and treatment success rates of DR-TB continue to increase. Let us make innovation, commitment, and cross-sector collaboration the driving force to accelerate a TB-free Indonesia,” said Prof. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in a press release announcing the launch of Upskill TB.

Upskill TB addresses this need by providing flexible, affordable, and accessible digital learning platform – a well-established format in Indonesia. The program ensures that healthcare professionals across Indonesia, including those in remote regions, are prepared to deliver quality care and support for people undergoing treatment with new DR-TB regimens.

“New TB treatments work fast and can save hundreds of thousands of additional lives. To ensure they rapidly reach everyone and no patient is left behind, all healthcare providers need to be capacitated with the latest tools and information. Upskill TB will do that timely and cost efficiently,” said Sandeep Juneja, Senior Vice President of Market Access at TB Alliance. “It is only apt that transformative treatments of today are paired up with contemporary training solutions like Upskill TB. We are honored to partner with the Ministry of Health and RPRI to launch this tool in Indonesia.”

“To solve unequal implementation of BPaL/M, the new DR-TB regimens, we developed Upskill TB – a simple, flexible online training platform created in Indonesia and now shared with the world. With expert-led lectures, each short and easy to follow, Upskill TB makes learning accessible anytime, anywhere. Currently in English and Indonesian, it will soon be available in more languages. We’re proud to showcase this innovation at the Union Conference in Denmark this November,” said Prof. Erlina Burhan, Director of the RPRI Foundation.

The launch of Upskill TB represents an important milestone in strengthening Indonesia’s digital health learning ecosystem. By combining innovation, commitment, and cross-sector collaboration, this initiative supports Indonesia’s national goal of eliminating TB by 2030.
