Forum 8: World Summit on Health Research (Mexico City, November 16-20, 2004)

The Global Forum for Health Research announces its 2004 Annual Meeting (November 16-20, 2004 in Mexico City) organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Mexico. Forum 8 provides the opportunity for presentations and exchange of views on the key issues on the global health agenda.

This year's programme will focus on global efforts to expand health research in neglected areas to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. It will also address issues of health priorities not covered by the goals themselves.

This year's key topics include:

  • The 10/90 gap in health research and the MDGs
  • Contributions towards reaching the MDGs by the public sector, private sector and civil society
  • Cross-cutting issues and the MDGs (such as poverty, gender, disability and research capacity strengthening)
  • Research to deliver better health to families/communities (research for improved child/maternal health and for sustainable environment)
  • Measuring progress towards the MDGs (including financial flows, priority setting, indicators of progress)
  • Partnerships in health research for development (including networks and public-private partnerships).
