Senior Manager, Market Access
Summary:
This position serves as the head of access programs and will be responsible for developing and implementing market interventions, contributing to rapid introduction, and broad access to novel TB regimens in low- and middle-income countries especially those with high incidence of tuberculosis.
The position is broad in scope, with interventions at regional and country level, in collaboration with technical, global health and commercial partners, and will play a pivotal role in creating global access to TB Alliance developed regimens.
The Market Access function at the TB Alliance includes all elements on the value chain including manufacturer relationship management, pricing strategy, forecasting, market understanding, resource mobilization, support for policy change, regulatory issues, diagnostics as well as technical adoption-related issues.
The opening is happening at an exciting time for new TB treatments. TB Alliance has recently developed a novel, short, all-oral treatment for highly resistant TB based on its new drug pretomanid. This treatment, called BPaL, is being implemented in multiple countries. This position represents a rare opportunity to participate in ongoing launch of a new drug and lead its market introduction in several high burden countries in collaboration with partners who are experts in the field.
Position description:
- Lead and manage a five-year multi-country, multi-partner project for introduction and scale-up of BPaL. The project is broad in scope and entails delivery of technical support through partners, policy formulation, planning for initial introduction and later scale up, communication, engagement of patient advocates, market planning exercises, etc.
- Successful delivery of project objectives will require the Programs Head to closely coordinate with technical partners, local agencies, commercial partners, and global health stakeholders to ensure. Specifically:
- Review, track, and report performance. Support partners to develop plans and strategies to achieve and exceed goals serving as their collaborator and thought partner
- Manage project committees
- Budget management and internal financial reporting
- Relationship and alliance management
- Risk management and mitigation
- Ensure value for money
- Develop local and regional networks for the organization with key national and regional stakeholders e.g., clinical experts, national TB programs, technical agencies, patient advocates
- Disseminate project findings and experiences regionally
- Proactively identify and execute opportunities to leverage the project for wider access benefits in project countries and project regions.
- In addition to the project above, develop and execute access strategies for select high priority countries. Identify opportunities to advance access in a focused list of high priority countries. Develop access and funding strategies, identify and foster collaborators to execute strategy. Build local networks and relationships to leverage wider organizational goals. Additionally:
- Identify, develop, and execute, in coordination with manufacturing partners, internal communications team, medical affairs, and others, opportunities for visibility of the organization and its innovations
- Lead engagement with patient advocates in target countries to support access objectives. Foster and build trusted relationships, establish proactive communication seeking inputs into strategy building and execution. Develop platforms to support treatment literacy
- Support medical affairs to identify and develop a network of TB treatment experts in target countries to guide organizational strategy
- Coordinate with internal teams to facilitate market research and other studies in target geographies
- Participate in and support market access strategy building and other departmental and organizational projects
- Participate in and support development of fundraising proposals. Lead or support follow-on implementation activities emanating from successful fundraising
- Participate in and support TB Alliance Access Advisory Committee meetings
Ideal candidates will have:
- A minimum of five years’ professional experience in launch of health products or implementation of health innovations, especially pharmaceuticals in emerging markets and developing countries.
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant field is required. An advanced degree such as an MD, MPH or MBA is preferred.
- Experience and deep understanding of current TB landscape, including bottlenecks and solutions to implementation of TB treatments in high burden countries, preferred.
- Working knowledge of public health systems and private health care treatment in countries with high incidence of tuberculosis
- Networks and strong relationships in high burden countries, at least in one key region
- Ability to absorb and synthesize a broad range of information, especially clinical and scientific information
- A self-starter with the ability to think innovatively, strategically, handle ambiguity, problem solve, collaborate with a small team, and work across several projects concurrently
- Delivery and execution orientation and ability to get work done through collaboration, without formal lines of control
- Excellent project management, communication, relationship management, and analytical skills
- Commitment to global health and neglected diseases, specifically TB.
