R&D Financial Manager


Position description:

  • Assists with the development and management of multiyear operational budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly budget/ forecast vs actual financial reports for all R&D departments.
  • Input and accuracy of budgets and forecasts in financial system.
  • Monitors budgets/forecasts on a monthly basis, confirms accuracy and conducts variance analysis of actual vs. budget.
  • Ensures budgets and forecasts remain on target with plan and adjust plan for changing scope of trial or project and provide justification for budget variances.
  • Provide ongoing financial support essential to the operations of the R&D departments.
  • Works closely with the Finance Department to ensure alignment of accounting of clinical and pre-clinical operations expenses.
  • Site budgets: Develops the site budget template based on the protocol schedule of assessments benchmarked from historical budget data.
  • Works directly with CRO budget manager on the assessment and finalization of all country-level base budgets
  • Provides oversight of CRO site start-up budget negotiations.  Liaison to CRO during the site budget negotiation process when budget the site request is outside of established parameters.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely study and program forecast updates from monthly meetings with Clinical and Preclinical Program Managers.
  • Oversees all financial administrative support for Contracts and related modifications.
  • Vendor Management: Assist with identifying and processing vendor change orders, based on the trial financials or at the CPM/ PM request for scope change, and timely submission and approval of invoices and quarterly accruals. Prepares justification summary for material vendor change orders for internal approval. Assures end of study reconciliations with vendors to contract close-out are completed.
  • Assists with any system implementations or upgrades.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Accounting or Finance
  • 5-10 years of relevant finance-related experience.
  • Life Science/Biotech R&D experience required.
  • Understanding of internal controls.
  • Prior experience with ERP systems, Financial Planning tools and other financial systems preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
