Director, Controller

Summary:

The central role of the Controller is to manage daily and routine operations of the accounting department, and to coordinate the completion of financial reports including monthly, quarterly, and annual General Ledger Reporting.  This position also assists in the development and maintenance of financial controls and control documentation in support of accuracy and integrity of financial information as directed by the Chief Financial Officer.

Position description:

  • Manage annual closing of financials, external audit process, and final review.
  • Oversee all tax filings.
  • Responsible for understanding all relevant accounting principles and application to the organization’s financial statements.
  • Responsible for employee project tracking and associated general ledger entries.
  • Oversee the banking function.
  • Oversee the accounts payable process.
  • Maintain and participate in the development of financial department policies and procedures. 
  • Oversee payroll.
  • Oversee 401k testing.
  • Oversee the annual general liability insurance renewal package and other clinical trials insurance on an as-needed basis.
  • Perform financial review of all contracts. 
  • Prepare spending analysis and other ad-hoc reports.
  • Serve as the administrator for financial software.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable GxP regulations in performing the functions of the job and attendance at annual GxP or other applicable regulatory trainings provided by TB Alliance.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Requires BS/BA in Accounting, Business, or other relevant degree.  MBA preferred. 
  • 10-15+ years’ relevant accounting and financial management experience, including managerial experience.
  • CPA and not-for-profit experience strongly desired.
  • Experience with U.S. government grants desired. 
  • Strong excel skills; adept at using accounting software.  Experience with NetSuite desired.
  • Excellent Communication, strong planning and organization skills
  • High attention to detail is necessary with minimal errors.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D and grant-based funding would be ideal.
