Director, Clinical Financial Analysis & Forecasting

Summary:

The Director of Clinical Finance will support the Clinical group in all financial aspects of Clinical programs, including budgeting, tracking, forecasting and implementing financial models to support Clinical leadership in budget management.  This position will report to the head of Clinical Operations and will collaborate with the Finance Department.

Position description:

  • Understanding the financial needs and drivers of Clinical trials to provide both strategic and operational financial support.
  • Lead annual budgets, forecast updates and assist in long-range financial plans for all clinical trials
  • Participate in the procurement process and provide task level support to Outsourcing Lead to ensure clear understanding of terms in vendor contracts for proper monitoring of contracts and related modifications.
  • Serve as primary finance lead for external partnerships/collaborations within Clinical Operations; support reporting, invoicing and planning to satisfy contractual agreement requirements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (e.g. CRO finance partners) and help troubleshoot finance-related issues.
  • Lead and manage clinical trial models/framework to provide monthly updates on life-to-date positions for ongoing trials, identify/understand major clinical operational drivers updating models as needed, and forecast remaining cash flow through end of trials
  • Lead monthly management reporting for clinical program leadership. Provide key insights that require attention and enable budget owners to establish and manage budgets.
  • Prepare ad-hoc monthly / quarterly financial deliverables as needed.
  • Partner with accounting team during quarter-end close with related spend/accruals for clinical operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement within the finance organization to streamline processes and improve communication and flow of information to the business.
  • Manage the financial analyst.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance. MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • 8-10 years of finance-related experience with at least five years in FP&A required.
  • Life Science/Biotech experience required as well as experience in budgeting and forecasting clinical trials.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles to ensure forecasts align with financial reporting
  • Understanding of internal controls.
  • Prior experience with ERP systems, Financial Planning tools and other financial systems required.
  • Strong excel and modeling skills
